History of creation and development of the platform

The official presentation of MT4 trading platform took place in the spring of 2005. Since 2007, the terminal has been gradually strengthening its positions and has become the undisputed leader in the segment by the number of active users. In 2010 the 5th version of the program was introduced.

FX Charts

The first information-trading complex, released in 2000, was called "FX Charts". It was oriented on the margin trading at Forex market, had no significant technical requirements, and had only modest built-in graphical capabilities.

In 2001, the second information-trading complex, MetaQuotes, was released. Unlike FX Charts, it has the ability to work on the CFD market (Contracts for Difference). In addition, the trading system was enhanced with MetaQuotes Language (MQL) programming language for trading strategies. This allowed to significantly expand the possibilities of the client terminal.

MetaTrader 3

At the beginning of 2002 the third platform - MetaTrader, which received the index 3, was released. It added the possibility to work with Futures market instruments and extended the programming language of trading strategies - MQL II. During a few years, the complex has been constantly upgraded.

The main advantage of that platform was the availability of a free library with a set of API functions, which made it possible to consider the terminal as an add-on to that API, up to writing your own interface for the client terminal.

In 2003, terminals for mobile trading appeared - MetaTrader CE (for Windows CE) and MetaTrader for Palm (for Palm OS).

MetaTrader 4

The information and trading platform MetaTrader 4 was officially released on July 1, 2005 and gradually became the most popular in its segment. Modernization touched all parts of the platform.

Great attention was paid to improving the reliability of the server. It became possible to connect the terminal through an optional Data Center. This solution allows to dramatically increase resistance to DDoS attacks, reduce the load on the server and increase its performance. A distinctive feature of the MetaTrader platform is the obligatory use of the Windows operating system for the server part.

The new communication protocol did not maintain compatibility with MetaTrader 3. The developers abandoned the open client API. There are only APIs available for managers and administrators of the server part. All previous developments, used client API, do not work with MetaTrader 4 servers.

Instead of client API the functionality of the C-like programming language of trading strategies (MQL4) was considerably extended, the work with DLL libraries is supported. In MQL4 there is no possibility of obtaining quotes from multiple sources simultaneously and their parallel analysis. Earlier this problem was solved on the API basis. Now MQL4 is a part of the terminal and does not allow exporting of the appropriate functions in other independent applications.

MetaTrader 5

MetaQuotes Software Corp. in March 2008 announced plans to release a new version of the platform - MetaTrader 5. The beta version was released on September 2, 2009 and the first release of the MetaTrader 5 platform was released on June 1, 2010.

The new version of the platform was expected to expand functionality - work not only on the currency market, but also on the stock market. However, in the release version this feature has not been implemented.

Metatrader 4 - simple and easy

The Metatrader 4 platform was created by MetaQuotes. The first version of FX Charts for forex trading appeared back in 2000, marking the beginning of the rise of the company, which specialized in the development of B2B-software. The second version of MetaQuotes provided the possibility to trade on Forex and CFD markets. The third version of MetaTrader was extended and expanded with new features. In 2005 the platform that became the most popular product of the brand was released.

Trading operations.

The basis of profits in financial markets is a simple rule: buy cheaper and sell dearer. Thus, all work in financial markets comes down to the consistent execution of trade operations on buying and selling financial instruments. This requires opening, changing and closing of trade positions. A trade position is called a market obligation, the number of bought or sold contracts, on which no offsetting transactions have been made. All trading activity in the terminal takes place using trade positions.

To open a trading position, it is necessary to perform a trading operation, and to close it - to perform the reverse operation. A trading position is opened by the brokerage company by a market order or by execution of a pending order. An open position can be modified by changing the values of Stop Loss and Take Profit orders attached to the position. Closing of the position is carried out on demand of the trader or on execution of Stop Loss and Take Profit orders. In addition, positions can be opened, modified and closed by an Expert Advisor.

With MetaTrader 4, you can trade in a really flexible and convenient way:

  1. 3 execution modes
  2. 2 market orders
  3. 4 pending orders
  4. 2 stop orders and trailing stop

All trading operations are displayed on the platform as a table with fields (from left to right):

  1. Order - transaction ticket number. It is a unique number of the trading operation;
  2. Time - time of position opening. The record is presented in the form YYYY.MM.DD HH:MM ( hour:minute). Exactly at this time, the position was opened;
  3. Type - type of trade operation. There can be several types of trade operations: "Buy" - long position, "Sell" - short position, and also the names of pending orders Sell Stop, Sell Limit, Buy Stop and Buy Limit;
  4. Volume - the number of lots involved in the operation. The minimum number of lots allowed in transactions is limited by the brokerage company, and the maximum - by the deposit;
  5. Symbol - this field shows the name of the financial instrument involved in the trading operation;
  6. Price - the price at which the position was opened (not to be confused with the current price, which is described below). This is the price at which the position was opened;
  7. S/L - level of the exposed order Stop Loss. If the order has not been set, a zero value is written in the field.
  8. More detailed information about working with orders is given in the corresponding section;
  9. T/P - level of the placed Take Profit order. If the order has not been set, a zero value is written in the field. More detailed information on working with orders is given in the corresponding section;
  10. Price - current instrument price (not to be confused with the position opening price described above);
  11. Commission - fees charged by brokerage companies for trade operations are written in this field;
  12. Taxes - taxes levied for trade operations are written in this field;
  13. Swap - this field records the accrual of swaps;
  14. Profit - this field contains the financial result of the trade, taking into account the current price. A positive result indicates that the transaction was profitable, and a negative one - unprofitable;
  15. Comments - comments on trade operations are written in this column. Comments can be written only when opening a position or placing a pending order. When modifying an order or a position, the comment cannot be changed. In addition, a comment on a trade operation can be written by a brokerage company.

Web trading with MetaTrader 4:

  • Trade directly from your browser
  • Compatible with any operating system
  • Secure data protection
  • One Click Trading
  • 30 Technical Analysis Indicators
  • Real Time Quotes Preview in Market Watch
  • Trading History
  • Working with chart objects
  • Doing all types of trading operations
  • 9 timeframes

For analytical purposes, technical indicators and linear tools are built into the terminal. These objects are superimposed directly on the chart and allow predicting the further price dynamics. Indicators are applied automatically, while line studies are applied manually. That is why it is important to correctly draw them when working with line studies. On the other hand, indicator parameters can also be set manually. Technical indicators may have different settings on different financial instruments and periods.

The use of technical indicators and linear tools makes it possible to reasonably open and close trading positions, place and modify pending orders. Besides, the use of analytical tools allows conducting systematic trading activities and thus reduces the influence of the emotional factor. Along with built-in technical indicators, custom indicators written in MetaQuotes Language 4 (MQL4) can be used for analytical purposes. Linear tools written in MQL4 language cannot be created similarly.

It is hard to imagine modern life without computers. They are everywhere: at work, at home, in the pocket, in all sorts of equipment that works under human control, or almost independently. The computer has become an indispensable tool for every trader.

Can a computer start earning on its own? All it needs is to teach it, to provide it with a simple algorithm - buy when the price goes up and sell when it goes down, share with it your experience of victories and warn it against disappointing failures. This is precisely the purpose of the automated trading function in the MetaTrader4 terminal, which is implemented with the help of so-called Expert Advisors.

Expert Advisors in MetaTrader4 are called the programs developed in the MetaQuotes Language 4 (MQL 4) programming language that enable you to automate analytical and trade operations. Expert Advisors enable the automatic analysis of the current situation and issue commands for trade operations and open positions management based on received signals.

The MetaTrader4 client terminal has its own built-in Expert Advisor development environment - MQL4 IDE

To work with advisors, the terminal has built-in programming language MetaQuotes Language 4, MetaEditor and tools for testing advisors. Using these tools, it is possible to create:

  • Expert Advisors - mechanical trading systems that allow to fully automate analytical and trading activities;
  • Custom indicators - independently written technical indicators designed to analyze price dynamics;
  • Scripts - program, which is executed once on request.

All of this information can be seen on the platform immediately after downloading mt4 exness.

MetaQuotes Language 4.

MetaQuotes Language 4 (MQL4) is a programming language that allows to create trading robots, technical indicators, scripts and function libraries for MetaTrader 4 trading platform. These applications greatly expand the possibilities for traders when trading in Forex.

MetaQuotes Language 4 is a high-level object-oriented programming language based on the concept of the popular C++ programming language. Due to its flexibility, MQL4 allows the creation of complex trading applications with large amount of calculations and detailed control of almost all parameters of trading robots and indicators.

MQL4 contains basic indicators for the analysis of current and historical quotes, as well as functions for managing and controlling trade orders. Thus, it is possible to develop applications using MetaQuotes Language 4 that can completely replace a trader in Forex.

  • Trading robot or Expert Advisor is an application for automated analytics and trading on Forex without human involvement.
  • Custom Indicator is a tool designed to analyze the trading situation on the market. Indicators cannot perform trading operations. Unlike built-in indicators, a custom indicator can contain any analytical algorithm.
  • Script - small application for a one-time execution of simple frequently repeated actions. For example, deleting all objects from a chart, closing all orders or placing a set of pending orders for an open position.
  • Library - a library of custom functions where frequently used blocks of custom programs are stored and distributed.

Security is another advantage of the MetaTrader 4 platform. All information exchange between the client terminal and the platform servers is encrypted. For more security, you can also use RSA electronic digital signatures (EDS). Rest assured - with such possibilities, your trading accounts are reliably protected!

On MT4, information exchange between you, the terminal and the platform's servers is encrypted with 128-bit keys. The platform also supports advanced security based on RSA, an asymmetric encryption algorithm.
